What convinced you to become part of the hej.build Architectural Advisory Board?
I am impressed by how holistically hej.build works and how refreshing everyone in the team is. When I recently took part in a workshop, the spark literally jumped over. There is a high level of dynamism at hej.build, coupled with curiosity, professional structure and visibly appealing external communication. I like that.
Above all, I like the idea of a platform that takes care of the interface between building product manufacturers, i.e. the industry, and planning offices – with all their different experiences and perspectives. That is absolutely exciting and necessary.
What are you most interested in at the moment in terms of architecture, interior design or building products?
We are currently feeling the impact of global political events particularly strongly. Crises have a catalyzing effect and always produce something new. Increased construction costs and the jolt in the real estate market are causing us to refocus – building in existing buildings is the future.
As a result, our work processes are constantly changing – and there is also a need for new construction products.
What is good architecture/interior design for you – in a few words?
From the outside, the big picture in architecture plays an important role for me. I particularly like it when a story can be told about a building.
Of course, this also helps in the marketing process. Sophisticated design has the future user in mind – the story then comes naturally.
Is there a current highlight or all-time favorite project that you would like to tell us about?
We recently transformed a beautiful old locomotive shed in Mannheim into a new working environment for Osapiens – an absolute gem! During the process, we kept discovering new details that could be incorporated into the design. We attach great importance to dealing responsibly with historical structures, integrating design elements and not overloading them.
What else is on your mind at the moment?
In my view, change processes are valuable future topics for us designers. So far, we have mainly supported our clients in the world of work. I think it would be exciting to take a look at other levels of society as well.
