What convinced you to become part of the hej.build architecture advisory board?

I think it is very important to intensify the dialog between the construction industry and planners. In-depth mutual understanding is essential, as is the willingness to set aside one's own, often very specific interests in order to create joint solutions. After all, construction is not just about individual products, but about holistic concepts that should ideally be developed together. To achieve this, it is sometimes necessary to find a common language and learn it together; only through genuine cooperation can all sides benefit and extraordinary results be achieved.

What are you most interested in at the moment in terms of architecture, interior design or building products?

I am concerned with the question of how we can achieve sustainable and future-proof architecture in a sensible and effective way. How can we make building in existing buildings even more efficient and resource-friendly? What products are needed for this and how can existing materials be sensibly recycled or even upcycled? Above all, I am interested in how we can seamlessly integrate such sustainable processes into existing construction processes today in order to bring about real change in the long term.

What is good architecture/interior design for you – in a few words?

Good architecture/interior design is always characterized by its innovative power – it thinks beyond the familiar, sets new standards and opens up new perspectives. At the same time, it is sustainable in that it conserves resources, is environmentally conscious and endures in the long term, but architecture is much more than just function and aesthetics: it touches people, inspires them emotionally and creates spaces in which they can feel comfortable, develop and connect with each other.

Is there a current highlight or all-time favorite project that you would like to tell us about?

Our recently completed project, the WestendTower in Frankfurt, is more than just a building for us – it is a living example of how a bold design strategy and an innovative utilization concept can breathe new life into a once outdated property from the 1960s. Here, functionality, style and modern design merge with the vibrant urban lifestyle of the city - a place that inspires and connects people.

Is there a question you would like to have asked yourself? What would it be and what is the answer?

»What excites you about building in existing buildings?« For us, building in existing buildings means one thing above all: making the invisible visible and recognizing the hidden potential of space and use at an early stage. For us, this special skill is the true art – the heart of every successful development of existing buildings. Building on this, the result is not only good design, but a space that tells stories and inspires people.
